Men! Sheesh, don't know nuthin about hygeine. . .

You need to tighten your skin up by exfoliating with a hard sponge or a liquid exfoliant before you shave. The alternative is to shave Before you shower and then shower in relativly cold water, to help close those pores up. Also, if your facial hair grows in funny directions it's sometimes easier to shave from left to right or right to left across your face, rather than up to down, or down to up. I can say I've never seen a man shave his neck any other way then from down to up (adam's apple to chin), so that's probably the right way to do that. Other than that, make sure you use a good lubricant when shaving (soap doesn't count, a shaving cream is sometimes worse than nother). When it's all done, apply a shaving balm to help calm your skin down.

Use Skin Tight it helps with ingrown hairs... and it works wonders. A lot of guys in the military use it. They should sell it at your BX/PX. That or Tend skin

This sounds really weird, but put deodorant wear you have to shave! It doesn't work for all people, but there's an ingredient in deodorant that reacts with some people's skin and prevents ingrown hairs and razor bumps.

there are pharmaceutical products made for that very problem

men with curly beards, particularly men with african ancestry often have that problem

my workplace requires workers to be clean-shaven because of the need to wear respirators that seal in the facial hair area

some of the guys that had that ingrown hair problem got a cream that helped a lot

I think there are prescription and non-prescription types but I don't know if they work equally well, you may need to see a doctor

Most men shave against the grain, causing the ingrown hairs. If you shave with the grain of the hair, they won't become ingrown. However, you will need a really good razor to get a military shave if you shave with the grain.

By the way, if you are getting really painful ingrown hair from shaving, you could get a shaving profile from the doctor for a few days until your face heals.

If you want to get rid of them for good, you may want to look into electrolysis where you zap the hairs away with a laser. It can be quite expensive though. If your ingrown hairs are particularly bad, you can see if you can get a "shaving waiver." Maybe you can even look into trying some special shaving creams for ingrown hairs and bumps or razors (ex. bump fighter at the PX). Good luck!

Use a pore opener.

You can also get a "profile" that might allow you to not have to shave every day. Good luck!

Use an electric razor and shave with rather than against the grain.

Go to your clinic and get a shaving profile.

possibly after shaving keep the area clean and dry. lots of people shave and sweat or get dirty on jobs and if fills the pores and open areas after shaving and causes pimple or abscesses.

Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods.

Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful.

Electrolysis and laser hair removal are "permanent" hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged.
