shave in the shower after your entire shaving area has soaked for about 5 minutes in hot water... use a good shaving cream designed for your hair and skin type... use new shaving razors and go slow. You will probably still get some ingrown hair... and as far as discomfort goes, you'll get the itchy hairs when it starts growing back (which is almost instant). Next time bet on something different lol ..... Good luck.

The best thing that I can say is soak in the hottest water you can before you shave. It helps open the pores. I shave my legs twice a year to help with tanning, and when I do, I shave in the hottest bath I can stand, let the shaving cream soak into your skin, then I will get back in the bath and shave under water. My legs weren't designed to be shaved though, but that is the best that I can say. I hope this helps.

ok, about an hour ago my hand brushed the outside of my underwear on the front, and i felt a slight pain. So i opened my underwear to see what was going on and I noticed I had like a medium sized bump that looked like it was filled with puss. I looked a little closer and there was puss inside and it started oozing out alot. I went into my room and sat on my bed and started to clean off the puss but it kept coming but not that much. So i just started squeezing so I could try and get it all out, but then blood started coming out and I stopped. You can feel something underneath my skin like a bump. I cleaned it out about 3 or 4 times already with hydrogen peroxide. and its still "open". I'm thinking it was an ingrown hair or something cause i saw a hair in there and I plucked it out with tweezers. I put a hot towel over it twice already and its gone down a little. But I wanna know what else I can do? and what do you think it is?

It sounds like a boil. These are very common in the genital area. They can get quite large. Since it is already open and draining, all you can really do is keep it clean. A bandage won't be necessary.
If the boil fills up again, you would need to see a doctor for proper lancing and drainage. The doctor would inject a small amount of local anesthesia and using a scapel, make a small cut into the boil. This would allow the pus and blood inside to drain. Antibiotic ointment or strips would be applied. You may have to take oral antibiotics as well.
Keep the area clean and dry. After using the bathroom, wipe or pat very gently. Avoid sex until the boil has healed.
It may be quite painful for a few days. Once the swelling goes down, the pain should let up.

well, it could just be a pimple, because us women sweat more and are very sensitive down there there is more chance of infection. please please please dont prod it any more, take a warm bath and put salt in the bath this will clean the sore, and wear only cotton underwear, if you are sexually active then go and get tested for anything that could be seriously wrong (which i doubt but better to be safe than sorry) and if it is still sore or is really bothering you go to see your gp.

You are most likely right about the ingrown hair, they can get infected. Sounds like you have taken proper care of it. Just keep it clean and put a small band-aid over to keep it clean and watch it for a day or two, it should get progressively better, if not, see a doctor.
you're already doing the best things for this atm. It likely is either a zit or an ingrown hair (if you shave down there these are common) Don't squeeze it anymore for a day or so and see if it starts to clear up. peroxide and rubbing alcohol are both great to put on it as ell. if it hasn't gonna away in a decent amount of time and seems to be growing much larger or excessively painful, or if more bumps appear I would recommend going to see your doctor. It could be a sign of something more serious.

You are right. It could be that you had an ingrown hair causing the problem. It makes sense because from your description, it was in the pubic area which has hair.You did right in getting th pus out , and getting it to bleed a little. That tells you that at least you did get all the pus out. Hot towel and cleaning the skin with peroxide was a good idea. if you find that it is not healing properly,you might want to buy a small tube of 1% Hydrocortisone and apply it to the bump , Then go see a doctor if it does not seem to heal. Go to the drug store and pick up a can of Dermoplast Antibacterial...in the red spray can! The blue spray can is for pain relief only. This stuff is great...I discovered it while I was in the hospital after having my first child. No pain from the stitches and helps heal fast.
It sounds like you have what we call a wimple, a pimply ingrown hair. First stop what you are doing and get the remedy I suggested above. With large toe nail or cuticle scissors trim back the bush from the affected area. Take a warm soapy shower and rinse well. Make certain you dry the area well...use your blow dryer. Spray the Dermoplast on the effected area and either go pantyless in a dress or robe or place a panty liner in your panties over the effected area. Do not squeeze, pick or scratch. Change your dressing often if it is weepy. Try to keep it as dry as possible and you should be back in order in two or three days. Moisture is the enemy right now as is too tight panties and those panty seams.
I can get one of these ungooders if I sit on breathable synthetic leather/plastic car seats or furniture for an extended period of time...like a long driving trip. Sit on a slightly open weaved cloth or leather seat. For the cheap seats sit on an all cotton towel or cloth seat covers preferably not synthetic.

Just because you use shaving cream down there, dosen't mean you cant get ingrown hairs. An ingrown hair is formed when the hair doesn't break the skin, and continues to grow in the hair follicle. Best treatment is to take a warm bath, soak for a bit, then exfoliate with a loofa. Dry the area well, and apply neosporin to anything that may have opened during exfoliating.
The bumbs should go away. Make sure you use a new razor when ever you shave that area.

okay like my legs looks like crocodile scales, dont say lotion because i read other similar questions and people say use oatmeal lotion and i do!! but lotion only helps with the dryness or the skin, not the scales!! On your thighs- it is a vitamin A deficiency called hyperkeritinization (your skin is not sluffing the dead cells like it needs to so it gets aggravated, bumpy %26amp; red) Try exfoliating w/ salt or sugar (which is more gentle) to help relief the bumps. Invest in a really nice lotion or buy pure jojoba oil which is excellent for dry skin because skin will absorb the oil because it matches the molecular structure of sebum in our skin. You can use this all over your body for more softness. You can find it at a health food store %26amp; it doesn't cost a lot. You want it to be quite yellow because this means it has been distilled less to it absorbs more slowly.
Scaly skin- no self tanners will not hide this. It will make it more apparent which you don't want. Try the jojoba oil %26amp; see if this will help. You are terribly dry! Drink plenty of water, cut out caffeine as much as possible (it dehydrates you), increase your fatty acids (omega 3 fish oil capsules). Olive oil is an excellent moisturizer too if you can't find jojoba. For both oils, a little goes a long way. I like to mix my oils w/ a bit of water in a spray bottle, this way I can just mist it on me when I am getting out of the shower. Don't take a hot, hot shower because the heat %26amp; the chlorine in the water make you more dry. One more tip, use a humidifier in your room at night. One that boils the water is best to help w/ dryness. Hope this is helpful!

Honesty, really its a bad idea. spray tanning and sunless tanning lotion comes off when the skin flakes off, so you will be left with brown patches instead of an allover color
You may have eczema or psoriasis. Go to a dermatologist or even a regular doctor. Do not use any tanning method. U could make your skin worse! Use as little chemicals as possible. Try some natural products and your skin condition may improve. Also, something many people don't realize is that the water from your shower could cause bad skin. Look into a shower filter!
i have scars when i tried to remove the ingrown hairs on my legs! I would scrap skin off to get the hair out and before i knew it, my whole leg is full of little scars!!!

ohhk uhh... this is hard just dont shave have ur mom or dad hide u razor every wweek after u shave so u only shave one time a week
First, stop squeezing them it doesn't help the situation. I would exfoliate your legs and then don't shave for a few days to allow the hair to grow out past the surface. After that you should be fine to shave and wear shorts, but don't pick at it, just makes it worse. Exfoliate weekly.
I would recommend getting laser hair removal. It's an easy, almost completely painless surgery that will leave you follicle free forever after just a few simple treatments. I've gotten it done to my whole body (minus my scalp) because hair really freaks me out and I would obsessively shave everywhere everyday. Now they're all gone, and it will work for you too! The price is a little steep and varies depending on where you live but it's around $1000 for both legs to be done. Which, if you think about how much you spend on razors-they would add up to much more than that by the time you pass on. And with laser surgery-it's gone forever!

Here would be my recommendations for your sensitive skin:
1) Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Facial Cleanser (contains feverfew, kind of like chamomile, and helps soothe skin.
2) Olay Facial Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin OR Aveeno Ultra-Calming Moisturizer. Once again, the Aveeno one has feverfew which really helps reduce redness.
IMPORTANT: Try as hard as you can not to irritate your skin. Wear SPF when you're outside (the Aveeno moisturizer has spf in it) don't put harsh chemicals on your face, and make sure that you're not drying out your skin with really strong facial cleansers.
3) If the redness is really bad try to stay away from foods that make you flush (spicy foods, usually).
My best recommendation would be for you to go see a dermatologist, make sure it's a good one, so that he/she can give you more tips. But don't EVER put anything on your skin that irritates it. I've been down that road before and it pretty much destroyed my sensitive skin. Treat your skin like a growing flower. Give it water (hydration) and a good place to live (clean skin) without completely stripping it of moisture (drying) and keep it away from hazardous things (skin irritants.) Good luck!
About the hair on your legs, I would still suggest waxing. Try exfoliating your legs a day before you wax, and make sure that they are clean after you wax, and that nothing touches them. Also, you may be using the wrong kind of wax for your skin. It may sound painful, but after the first time it gets better, and it is definitely worth it. If you shave your legs will become as rough as an unshaved guy's chin. Ugh. I would suggest Veet Wax Strips for Sensitive Skin or wax from Sally's Beauty Supply. DO NOT try Sally Hansen strips, unless they're for the face, because the body ones are horrible. Also, if you're a first time wax user, try to get pre-made wax strips, the ones that you warm between your hands and tear apart, like the veet ones. If you want wax that you put on your legs and it dries non-sticky for pulling off easier, definitely go to sally's beauty supply. Or you can always go to a salon to get the waxing done if you don't want to do it at home. One more thing : If you have sensitive skin, like me, don't use depilatories or shaving creams. Because 1) shaving will hurt your skin if it's really sensitive 2) depilatories usually have adverse reactions on sensitive skin like little rashes, even though you may not be allergic to anything. Been there, done that.
ps: I've been following the regimen I wrote about above and I've been using both the Aveeno and the Olay product and they work great! I still get a little pink on my cheeks but it isn't bad!
See your doctor or a dermatologist, they have prescription meds that can help. You might also try a natural concealer (like Bare minerals), they're fine for sensitive skin (like ours) and they minimize redness... Good luck with this, I hope this helps you!

Intense light is one of the popular treatment for rosacea or redness /flushing.
As for hairy legs, you could go for laser treatment. It is very effective and permanently remove the hair. So your legs can be smooth and hair free, you don't have to worry about ingrown hair anymore.
Talk to your dermatologist about both procedures. They are expensive procedures though, so you may also want to talk to your mum.
Right now I use intuition and its alrite. But I need to know really good razors. And plus I heard that mens razors are really good because they are designed to get ingrown hairs and because mens hair usually grows really fast. SUGGESTIONS?
The Venus razor works really good! I am in love with it! I get 0 cuts and it makes my legs smooth because it has a lotion/moisturizer in it. Get the Venus Breeze from any store near by. well good luck, im sure youll love it! :)

I used to swear by that Intuition razor, but I have discovered that new Venus Breeze with the moisturizing shaving strips on each side and I absolutely love it. It is not as bulky as the Intuition. I recommend you getting one ASAP. At Wal-Mart right now they have a little pack that has the razor, fingernail polish, toe separators, and cute little stickers in it for like five dollars. Are you sexually active and do you use condoms? You can have a wart that can be removed. Go to your doctor and tell him the truth and he will give you the truth back in a diagnosis.

On the next few showers after a wax and you've been in the shower for a bit, making sure the waxed area is thoroughly wet and saturated and just a bit more then gentle, scrub the area with a wet but rung out wash cloth. Or you can use a dry one, but I like damp.
Go over the waxed area to make sure the tops to the hair follicles stay open so the new growth can grow out and not get stuck. Do this for the first 4 days, or more, and then start again once you notice even the tiniest amount of stubble.
Actually doing it every day would not hurt at all. And be sure to rinse well after the scrub. And if you do get an ingrown hair just rub it AFTER you get out of the shower with your dry towel until the head comes off and you may need tweezers to get the hair growing out straight again.
Should keep you ingrown hair free.

I have some problems keeping me from having nice legs:
1) I use an epilator (Epilady Classic - the coil one) but sometimes it only breaks the hair and makes stubble. How do I get rid of the stubble? Do I need a new epilator that uses rotating tweezers? I don't want to shave.
2) I have some scars on my legs from flea bites and ingrown hairs caused by shaving. I've had them for a while and they are fading, but very slowly. How do I get rid of them?
3) My legs are only tanned on the bottom half but the tan is uneven. My thighs are white. How do I get my whole legs nice and evenly tanned?
4) I am quite happy with the shape of my legs, but I wouldn't mind slimming them down slightly, especially the thighs and calves. Do you know any exercises that would help?

seems to me like your to insecure with your legs. don't worry, everyone is. When you shave your legs, you don't really have to use a razor. There are many shaving products, such as Nair, which you only spray on, and it will dissolve your hairs. Or you can try waxing strips . then buy some good lotion, and that will help your skin feel smoother and help all those cuts. and for that tan, put some tanning lotion on, and go to the beach and get your tan on[; just make sure not to go in the sun to long. Then run a few miles in the moring, running reshapes your legs.

Um if anyone might know this before I go see a doctor I am kind of quite worried about this but here goes.
I kinda just noticed a bump in my left pubic area, and it doesn't really seem like a zit or anything and its not red or anything but looks a little swollen. And it feels like something is under the skin.
But when I attempt to squeeze it and feel around it I can feel this little weird round thing under their kinda, and each time when I press on it, it kinda hurts a little a little medium type pain.
And heres another thing I have a type of habit were sometimes when I pull my pubic hairs out at times? I know its kinda really weird but I kinda have something really weird were I have different types of habits. And Im not sure maybe this could of caused an infection or ingrown hair?

That little pea-size "lump" is going to continue to grow. In all likely hood, it is just like an oil gland that didn't break its way out of your skin..However, you do need to have a doctor cut it out. He will do it right in his office. The longer you let it go, the chances improve that it will become infected. So, don't hesitate. Call any doctor.

Um, i kind of had the same problem as you buddy, let me guess, is it in the lower part of the testicle? If yes, then its probably a tube that carries sperm out of the testicles that has sperm "stuck" in there and couldnt get out. I would go see a doctor because if its not that then it could be something serious, good luck man.
There are several things this could be. First and foremost though, don't worry. Chances are it is something minor, possibly a bad ingrown hair (those can become minorly infected - hence the lump - and the hair could be the wierd round thing you're feeling since it usually would be coiled and encased in waxy bacterial growth/white blood cells etc...). This is particularly possible since you mentioned you pull out your pubic hairs occasionally, as the regrowing hair might have a higher chance of being ingrown. It may also be a minor cyst of some kind (your doctor can either remove it, or if it's harmless he may leave it).
Things like this happen more than you realize, but it's good that you're aware of it, and that you're seeking help for it. My best advice would be to seek medical attention when you can. While personally it doesn't sound like it could be cancer, based on my knowledge, i'm no expert. However, your doctor is, and will be able to tell you exactly what it is and what steps need to be taken to get rid of it.

2 years ago I thought I had herpes but the obgyn said they were just ingrown hairs that make small cysts in my hair down there region. They reoccur every several months and are kind of hard and painful, but my OB said theyre just cysts. Does that sound right to you? Has anyone else had somethng like this before?

How do I stop them from happening. That is one reason why I have not worn a "real" bathing suit in years. Use a good razor and gel made specifically for your bikini area. Do it at night before bed and put a non-fragranced lotion on after. This should work for you I hope! : )
I'm not sure how old you are, but it's better to wax the bikini area than any strategy because razor bumps are likely to happen there. You can buy a kit at the drugstore, but I would advise going to an actual salon to get this done.
Aveeno shaving cream for sensitive skin, and use a brand new razor (yes every time), shave in the same direction the hair grows, only go over it once, and then apply this cream called bikini zone.

I don't recommend shaving for bikini line. Waxing is the best solution and you will be hair-free for almost 1 month.
if you're not afraid of pain, go to a salon or dayspa and get waxed. otherwise, exfoliation is super important!! exfoliate before AND after you shave with a good grainy body wash, scrub, or polish. the body shop sells some great ones!! also, use a new razor with 3 or more blades so that you won't have to go over the same area too much and use a thick shaving cream to really moisturize and protect the skin. you could also get that bikini zone creme stuff to apply to the area after you shave to prevent razor burn.

Have you tried Veet or Nair? Those work pretty well. You could also try exfoliating the area on the upper thigh. Those work for times you don't have a lot planning and need a quick fix. The best solution would be to have the area waxed about 10 days before you go. You might have a small reaction with red bumps for a couple of days after the initial wax but it will clear by the time you go on your trip. Then the hair won't grow back for a t least 4 weeks. That's been my best result.
You should try waxing- that normally works the best. If you do shave use a brand new razor with a moisterizing shave gel and, I know this sounds very strange but...after shaving the area rub solid deodorant in a downwards motion. A friend told me that a couple years ago and I've been doing it ever since. I works!!
There's a gel that's sold in drug stores, called Bikini Zone, Its made to prevent the bumps.
I always shave with Soy Pete's Shaving Oil. It never causes razor burn or redness of any kind! I love it because not only do I get a great shave with it, it conditions my legs so much that I don't need to apply lotion to them after I shower! Well first of all You can get bumps from using your Razor more then 3 times if it is disposable.
Another thing you can do is to make sure you get a good shaving cream that will help reduce bumps from occurring.
Also make sure you add enough cream to your self before you shave But the re usage of a razor is the most leading causes for bumps.
Try some other hair removal method, which may be more suitable.

i wax my bikini area every 4 weeks, i have also used other methods of hair removal before but i always end up like this, the thing is..when the hair is regrowing..i get these red spots that are unsighty. they leave scars if i squeeze them..some are ingrown hairs but quite often the hair is through and i still get them. also a week or so after waxing i get a terrible itch, which causes me to scratch sometimes until blood is drawn. at the moment my inside thighs looks like i have measles or something, this is ongoing for months now and i dont know what it is.

Seriously, waxing and shaving are not for everyone. Trimming does not affect sensitive skin.
It will be one of two things-
a) ingrown hairs or irritation of the hair follicle (what is likely if you dont see an ingrown hair but the hair has come through)
b) an allergic reaction to either the waxing product or the way you are waxing.
The best thing is to not shave/ wax for a while and let it clear up. If you continue doing it without sorting the rpoblem out it could become a persistance ptoblem and end up with scarring, especially if you are drawing blood. Also try sensitive wax or foam next time you do your bikini line.
It's inflammation of you skin where the hair grows. Your doctor can give you atibiotic cream for it. Best way to get rid of the hair is with cream followed by antisceptic cream.

Hiya. It is awful and you must feel so uncomfortable. I'm afraid the only solution is to stop waxing. You should wait till the rash has cleared up, and with a little time and an antiseptic cream like Savlon it will in no time. You really mustn't scratch because your nails harbour germs and you will infect it.
Once the inflamation has gone down, you could try a mild hair remover. Personally though, I lather with a mild soap like Fairy and gently shave. I know it doesn't last very long, but if your in the bath or shower nearly every day like me, then it doesn't take any time at all. And it's worth it not to have such an uncomfortable rash.

The skin condition is normal. The waxing isn't!!!! You're supposed to wax every 6-8 weeks. No wonder your skin is having such a hard time. You're not giving your skin time to heal, so stop waxing so often and see the difference.

There are special precutions to shaving. Especially in sensitive and pubic areas. I beleive the rash is a combination of razor burn and the hair regrowing.

Just because you use shaving cream down there, dosen't mean you cant get ingrown hairs. An ingrown hair is formed when the hair doesn't break the skin, and continues to grow in the hair follicle. Best treatment is to take a warm bath, soak for a bit, then exfoliate with a loofa. Dry the area well, and apply neosporin to anything that may have opened during exfoliating.
The bumbs should go away. Make sure you use a new razor when ever you shave that area.

First, stop squeezing them it doesn't help the situation. I would exfoliate your legs and then don't shave for a few days to allow the hair to grow out past the surface. After that you should be fine to shave and wear shorts, but don't pick at it, just makes it worse. Exfoliate weekly.
I would recommend getting laser hair removal. It's an easy, almost completely painless surgery that will leave you follicle free forever after just a few simple treatments. I've gotten it done to my whole body (minus my scalp) because hair really freaks me out and I would obsessively shave everywhere everyday. Now they're all gone, and it will work for you too! Here would be my recommendations for your sensitive skin:
1) Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Facial Cleanser (contains feverfew, kind of like chamomile, and helps soothe skin.
2) Olay Facial Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin OR Aveeno Ultra-Calming Moisturizer. Once again, the Aveeno one has feverfew which really helps reduce redness.
IMPORTANT: Try as hard as you can not to irritate your skin. Wear SPF when you're outside (the Aveeno moisturizer has spf in it) don't put harsh chemicals on your face, and make sure that you're not drying out your skin with really strong facial cleansers.
3) If the redness is really bad try to stay away from foods that make you flush (spicy foods, usually).
My best recommendation would be for you to go see a dermatologist, make sure it's a good one, so that he/she can give you more tips. But don't EVER put anything on your skin that irritates it. I've been down that road before and it pretty much destroyed my sensitive skin. Treat your skin like a growing flower. Give it water (hydration) and a good place to live (clean skin) without completely stripping it of moisture (drying) and keep it away from hazardous things (skin irritants.) Good luck!
About the hair on your legs, I would still suggest waxing. Try exfoliating your legs a day before you wax, and make sure that they are clean after you wax, and that nothing touches them. Also, you may be using the wrong kind of wax for your skin. It may sound painful, but after the first time it gets better, and it is definitely worth it. If you shave your legs will become as rough as an unshaved guy's chin. Ugh. I would suggest Veet Wax Strips for Sensitive Skin or wax from Sally's Beauty Supply. DO NOT try Sally Hansen strips, unless they're for the face, because the body ones are horrible. Also, if you're a first time wax user, try to get pre-made wax strips, the ones that you warm between your hands and tear apart, like the veet ones. If you want wax that you put on your legs and it dries non-sticky for pulling off easier, definitely go to sally's beauty supply. Or you can always go to a salon to get the waxing done if you don't want to do it at home. One more thing : If you have sensitive skin, like me, don't use depilatories or shaving creams. Because 1) shaving will hurt your skin if it's really sensitive 2) depilatories usually have adverse reactions on sensitive skin like little rashes, even though you may not be allergic to anything. Been there, done that.
ps: I've been following the regimen I wrote about above and I've been using both the Aveeno and the Olay product and they work great! I still get a little pink on my cheeks but it isn't bad!

I started off yesterday with what i thought was a boil or ingrown hair(i do shave my pubic area where it was located) i was a little bubble that hurt. It had pus and a little hair in it. today i went to the bathroom and it must of popped, now it bleeds. but now it looks like when u get a deep cut somewhere. like a peice of skin is missing. It could be an infected ingrown hair or maybe herpes. I would get tested just to be sure. My friend had something similar and it turned out to be a herpes outbreak, even though it started with just one small blister. Good luck!

Women can get boils in their genital area. If it was only one with no other symptoms, I seriously doubt you have herpes. Try not to worry. If you continue to get them you might look into Bartholin's Gland Abscesses online or mention it to your ob/gyn. Keep it clean for now (obviously) and see a dr. if you start running a fever.

you may have a blocked hair follicle or an abscess caused from shaving. you should never shave with a razor. clip the hair with scissors. if you continue to shave your hair down to the skin that boil will only get worse. you will start to have several of them and they will get bigger and hurt and they will burst when you sit down or cross your legs. it's horrible. start using scissors or try to start going to spas and getting a bikini wax or maybe learn how to do your own bikinin wax. for now, you can be some neosporin on the wound to help it heal. The ability to shave or use products like Nair without complications varies from woman to woman. Some can do it effortlessly, no rash, no cuts, no ingrown hairs, no discomfort whatsoever. Others, possibly like yourself, can't find a comfortable solution. For women like you, the best you might be able to do is to TRIM. Just keep the hair shorter. Relax and take your time and you can avoid injury.
If you haven't tried anything yet, start with shaving. See how you make out. If you got a nasty rash, let it heal completely, let the hairs grow back, then try Nair or similar product. See how you make out with it. Finally if both fail, you can try waxing , which may not work out for you either, or trimming.

I used to shave on a regular basis but now when I am controlling the growth of the hair in the pubic area I trim. My doctor asked that I trim the hairs instead because of the fact that I could have more problems with ingrown hairs.
Some women wax the area as well.
I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what additional suggestions they may have.
just go for a brazilian, its only painful the first time and then the pain is less the next time at least that way you will be hair free downstairs....

Hi, i find the best way is to cut off as much as poss, then use an epilady,the first it hurts, but then you can do it the next time and it will not hurt so much, and it lasts for about 6 weeks, good luck

I shave and haven't had any problems with it. I am scared of waxing and using depilatory creams. So I just lather up well, take my time, and use a good razor.

How do I stop them from happening. That is one reason why I have not worn a "real" bathing suit in years. I don't have curly hair, and I know there are ingrown hairs once in awhile, but it makes for an ugly site. Help. I am going to Mexico in March and really want to wear a bathing suit. Any sugestions.

Use a good razor and gel made specifically for your bikini area. Do it at night before bed and put a non-fragranced lotion on after. This should work for you I hope! : )
I'm not sure how old you are, but it's better to wax the bikini area than any strategy because razor bumps are likely to happen there. You can buy a kit at the drugstore, but I would advise going to an actual salon to get this done.
Aveeno shaving cream for sensitive skin, and use a brand new razor (yes every time), shave in the same direction the hair grows, only go over it once, and then apply this cream called bikini zone.

I don't recommend shaving for bikini line. Waxing is the best solution and you will be hair-free for almost 1 month.
if you're not afraid of pain, go to a salon or dayspa and get waxed. otherwise, exfoliation is super important!! exfoliate before AND after you shave with a good grainy body wash, scrub, or polish. the body shop sells some great ones!! also, use a new razor with 3 or more blades so that you won't have to go over the same area too much and use a thick shaving cream to really moisturize and protect the skin. you could also get that bikini zone creme stuff to apply to the area after you shave to prevent razor burn.

Have you tried Veet or Nair? Those work pretty well. You could also try exfoliating the area on the upper thigh. Those work for times you don't have a lot planning and need a quick fix. The best solution would be to have the area waxed about 10 days before you go. You might have a small reaction with red bumps for a couple of days after the initial wax but it will clear by the time you go on your trip. Then the hair won't grow back for a t least 4 weeks. That's been my best result.
You should try waxing- that normally works the best. If you do shave use a brand new razor with a moisterizing shave gel and, I know this sounds very strange but...after shaving the area rub solid deodorant in a downwards motion. A friend told me that a couple years ago and I've been doing it ever since. I works!!
There's a gel that's sold in drug stores, called Bikini Zone, Its made to prevent the bumps.
I always shave with Soy Pete's Shaving Oil. It never causes razor burn or redness of any kind! I love it because not only do I get a great shave with it, it conditions my legs so much that I don't need to apply lotion to them after I shower! Guys can use it to and it has never caused an outbreak of pimples because it's full of essential oils your skin needs! It's fairly inexpensive and huge benefits so I recommend you try some! Well first of all You can get bumps from using your Razor more then 3 times if it is disposable.
Another thing you can do is to make sure you get a good shaving cream that will help reduce bumps from occurring.
Also make sure you add enough cream to your self before you shave But the re usage of a razor is the most leading causes for bumps.
Try some other hair removal method, which may be more suitable.

i reg wax my bikini area, i have also used other methods of hair removal. the thing is..when the hair is regrowing..i get these red spots that are unsighty. they leave scars if i squeeze them..some are ingrown hairs but quite often the hair is through and i still get them. also a week or so after waxing i get a terrible itch, whicj causes me to scratch sometimes until blood is drawn,
There are special precutions to shaving. Especially in sensitive and pubic areas. I beleive the rash is a combination of razor burn and the hair regrowing.

It could very well be a hair bump, or like a pimple. But if you are still alarmed, make an appt to your OBGYN and see what he/she thinks about it. But I wouldn't worry if you are not doing ANYTHING sexual.
Hey, I'm going to be getting my legs, underarms and bikini line waxed for the first time soon. I'm not worried about the hair on my legs as it thin and straight. But as I'm mixed race the hair under my arms %26amp; in my bikini region is thick %26amp; curly...So I was wondering if this means it will hurt more or have more complications ingrown hairs etc. I would be glad to hear from people with thick curly hair that get waxed lol! thanx
Will be painful the first time and you may experience some ingrowing hairs later.
Speak to the beautician on the day of your appointment about this.

Heya im mixed race and have natrually afro curly hair :0) , Ive had one bikini wax and it was pretty quick and not painfull jus shocking u dnt ave tym 2 feel the pain the pain came afterwards lol but went the pain went away pretty quick and there was no complications with hair at all it was great it stayed that way for 3 and a half weeks, alot better than shaving as it gets rashy n spotty and in rown hairs plus it dusnt last more than a day definatley do it again because I can have the same lady plus she said its better for mixed race people to have it done as theres actually less risk of ingrown hair and rash etc plus it lasts longer :0) hope this helps xxx
Make sure you exfoliate the area each day afterwards and this should reduce the chances and number of ingrown hairs.
okay so i have been shaving "down there" for about 10 years now and well the other day i used a razor that wasnt as "new" as i thought it was and ended up with horrible razor burn, i mean, the kind with the itchy red bumps that look like ingrown hairs, there are several of them. what can i do? how do i get rid of them quickly and safely?? last time i had an ingrown hair it turned into a staph infection :(

Apply ice when the itch gets unbearable. You need to use something like diaper rash ointment, or any thick and creamy lotion. Something that will stay put and not rub off onto your underwear.
I highly recommend that you go to a salon and get waxed. You will never have to deal with razor burn again. The hair will grow in softer and finer each time you get waxed as opposed to shaving which makes the hair grow in thicker courser and faster. Best of all, you won't have to worry about ingrown hairs from shaving, and you only have to have it done every 4-6 weeks, unlike shaving which to look right needs to be done a couple times a week.
While waxing isn't exactly pain free, it does get better over time. The longer you wax, the less often it has to be done too. I have been waxing for just a little over 3 years now, the first time was when I got married. I now only have to go in for maintenance waxes once every 2 months. I don't do anything extreme, just a bikini wax, as my husband prefers that I still look like a woman down there.

i know that if you have a heating pad then put it on low and heat that skin for no more then 5 minutes and lotion, just be really gentle
just treat your razor burn just as you would anywhere else. make sure your hands are clean if you go anywhere near. wash our hands before%26amp;after.
and i HIGHLY SUGGEST- not to shave there anymore. it may seem as an easy alternative but it makes the hair grown thicker-faster and stronger.
soak some cotton balls in witch hazel and let it sit on the skin for a couple minutes

You should try what they use on babies. A%26amp;D they sell it in the baby section, it curses rashes dry skin and other stuff . It works i shave my personal parts and sometimes i nick it or gets red if the razor is not new.

Basicaly i shaved the hair on my face, the cheek hair, and now i got loadsa little and big bumps!! It dont look good, i usualy electric shave and its fine but mine broke and im broke so cant replace it yet, have to wait for my dad to replace it :)
Umm my question is, what is it? ( I think its ingrown hairs cos i shaved the opposite direction the hair grows in, plus its not red and stinging) Any ideas how i can get rid of them fast?
Plus, i used gilette fusion, a fresh never-used blade, so i dnt no why my skin reacts like this!

Before shaving use hot water or a hot cloth on your face, this will open the pours and make it loads easier. Then when your finished use cold water or cloth to sooth any razor burn and close the pours. I find shaving oil is way better than foam or soap to shave.
It does sound like ingrowing hairs, they're a pain, you could try exfoliating them, either buy a product or make your own using a good face soap and some granulated sugar. mix it up in your hand and rub it into your skin in little circles, watch out for your eyes, then just rise it off with warm water.

Never shave in the opposite direction - that's where you're going wrong. Not sure what you can do now, as you have irritated them, just put on soem cream, and it will g down soonish.

You may just have sensitive skin , and because you don't regularly wet shave you have just irritated your skin.
The blade you are using is fine , I also use this type and have always had sensitive skin type.
Before you wet shave you should wash your face in normal soap and warm water then rinse but do not dry . You then add you shave foam / gel , again try the type for sensitive skin . I usually do a shave with the growth , then re lather and do a quick shave the opposite .
It may be that your skin just needs to get used to a wet shave
if you are going to use an electric trimmer, then by all means trim in the opposite direction of hair growth. if you are going to use a razor ALWAYS shave in the direction of hair growth.

I have them bumps/boils around my groin but not on my genitals. It could be ingrown hairs but it's gotten worse over the years. Doctors always say it's ingrown hair but sometimes the swollen area is huge like 1 inch by 1 inch. And the boils start red and become so filled with blood, they turn purple. No itching at all just soreness. Even when I don't share down there, I still get these bumps. Help!
Sounds like a rash called, petechiae. Petechiae is when little blood vessels close to the skin burst or leak small amounts of blood into the skin. Typically they are at first red, then turn purple, brown, and then slowly fade away.
Petechiae can be caused by a great number of things from very minor to very major. And can occur anywhere on the body. The biggest cause is either a skin infection and/or an allergic reaction. Do you notice the rash when you wear a specific kind of clothing? Are you taking medications or using any creams? Does the rash show up in other areas of the body? If you can determine the cause, you will know whether it is serious or not.
What the person above is talking about is what it is called when the skin turns purple, but not what causes it. Please look up Hidradenitis Suppurativa. That sounds like your problem. Report It

As a nurse I am advising you to see a physician or a nurse practitioner about this. Staph infections can become extremely serious and there is a strain of staph called MRSA(methacillin resistant staph auereus) that is extremely difficult to clear up and has resulted in some deaths. We carry staph on our bodies as a normal flora, but it is an opportunistic organism. On healthy, intact skin it poses no problem, but, if you have a cut or in your case an ingrown hair it can lead to serious problems. Don't rely on any advise from YA except this,see a medical professional as soon as possible.
The other nurse gave you some good advise, however, as a lay person you really don't know what you have going on. If you wait until you have red streaks running from the site, or fever,etc. you may be in worse shape. The safest bet is tosee a medical professional before the infection has an opportunity to spread. But do not go digging around in it yourself.

a staph infection will kill you! you need strong anitbiotics. but your symptoms aren't staph.
I doubt it is a staph infection, go to the drugstore and show it to the pharmacist. She will give you a topical cream/ointment.
If you think you might have a staph infection you had better RUN to your doctor, that is nothing to play with. An ingrown hair does hurt and can be red BTW.
Folliculitis is usually caused by Psuedomonas.
You need to see a doctor for the antibiotic that can reverse this infection.
If it is Psuedomonas, your doctor will determine what is right for you.
A penicillin would not cover this bacterial infection.
I'd get a friend to grab the staph and pull it out... then put a band aid on the hole... then stay away from shepards for a while.
schedule an appointment with a doctor immediately so they can properly diagnose you. Staph infections are very difficult to treat and may require hospitalization. It is also contagious, so make sure you wash with an anti-bacterial soap often, and wash all of your clothing and bedding.

I don't think you have a staph infection per se. Usually when people speak of staph infections, they're talking about systemic antibiotic-resistant disease.
Really, it's probably just an infected ingrown hair, a boil. Put hot washcloth compresses on it. Sterilize a pair of tweezers with 90% isopropanol, rub the alcohol on the skin with a cotton ball, and attempt to extract the hair carefully. Put a bandaid on it when you're finished. It should heal within a few days.
If it hurts too much, use the alcohol or a pimple treatment on it to dry out the skin. Whatever bacteria are in there will dry out and die as well. When the skin starts peeling, then try to extract the hair in the same way (sterilize the surface and the tools).
the best thing to do is to go to a dermatologist and not to self medicate. the thing with staph infections, they have increased resistance to antibiotics because people have the tendency to self-medicate and in inappropriate doses which doesn't get rid of them. they can adapt to their environment, just like every other organism. for now, just put some ice pack on it to reduce the swelling and to get rid of the redness. maybe it will just go on its on. just don't prick or pull the hair out to avoid the risk of getting it infected, for sure, that will be a staph infection once it gets infected. if you've had it for a week already, you should definitely see a dermatologist.

It probably is not a staph infection, nothing so serious. Depending on where it is you should use witch hazel, or alchohol. Or you can get some Clydamicin, which treats infections like that. It is a topical treatment. If you get them often, then see a dermatologist, you have a bacteria problem that needs prescription. Don't try to pop it or pick the hair out, it will get infected or scar. And that's no fun!
Sounds like you have a boil, It's hard to say if it's infected with Staph without viewing some of the puss under the microscope. Try putting some heat on it to bring the boil to a head (point). Hopefully it will burst and a whole bunch of pus and blood will skeet out. You will feel better immediately. Then you need to clean the area and keep it dry. If you can't get the boil to burst, you must see a doctor so that they can lance (cut) it. Either way, the pus must come out,

What you're describing sounds like a boil. A boil is a local infection of your skin caused by bacteria that usually enters through a hair follicle. You can probably treat this at home.
Here are some tips on what to do for this and when to see your doctor:
1. Apply hot pack (warm, moist towel...hot but not to the point it will burn your skin) for 20 minutes several times a day. This will help the infection to open up and drain.
2. NEVER try to scratch, squeeze, pop, or otherwise open up the sore. Doing this can cause a worse infection.
3. Keep the area clean and dry. Cover with a bandaid if necessary.
4. If it opens up and drains, wash it with mild soap and cover it with a bandaid. Change the bandaid at least once a day.
WHEN TO CALL A DOCTOR:
1. If the redness gets significantly worse with red streaks going away from the area.
2. If the pain becomes significantly worse. (it will be painful until it opens and drains because the skin is being stretched).
3. If you run a fever over 100.
4. If you start feeling ill otherwise (headache, body aches, chillls, etc).

There is an ointment called boil ease that works well on things like this. It makes it warm and helps bring it to a head. It will then burst and drain. A hot compress on it helps also. If this does not work, you need to see a doctor for antibiotics.

To prevent the spread of infection, use a towel only once when you clean an area of infected skin, then wash it in hot water (or use disposable towels).

For severe infections, your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic for you. If so, be sure to take your antibiotic as prescribed for as many days as your doctor directs. If a person has a large, pus-filled staph infection, it may need to be drained by a doctor.
